Eye of Horus Megaways Slot Review

Eye of Horus Megaways takes Blueprint's old Egyptian pub-slot favourite and stretches it into a 6-reel Megaways layout with up to 15,625 ways. You still get those expanding Horus wilds and the free spins symbol-upgrade feature, which is where the real action is meant to be. Still, the 95.49% RTP feels stingy by UK standards, and that flashy 10,000x max win looks more like a promise on paper than something you'll actually see.

Eye of Horus Megaways Game Overview

Eye of Horus Megaways keeps the old Ancient Egypt look almost intact, so if you've played the original Eye of Horus you'll recognise it straight away. Same symbols, same cabinet-style feel, same slightly dusty atmosphere really. The big change is the setup: 6 reels, between 2 and 5 symbols on each, and a ceiling of 15,625 ways to win. That's a decent number, though it doesn't feel as wild as some other Megaways slots because the reels don't stretch to 7 rows.

Eye of Horus Megaways

And yes, it has the Megaways label, but no cascading wins. That's a bit annoying. I kept expecting reels to drop in fresh symbols after a hit, then remembered this game just stops and moves on. It makes the whole thing feel more old-school than modern, which I don't totally mind, but some players will.

Volatility sits somewhere in the medium to high range and it plays more on the high side to me. The base game can go a bit quiet, then sudenly the expanding wild lands and wakes it up. Most of the proper potential is packed into free spins, but getting there can take longer than you'd like.

Theme, Graphics and Sound

The theme is pure old-school Egypt stuff: scarabs, ankhs, birds, jackals, the Eye of Horus, all of it. It looks very close to the original game, just widened out for Megaways. I kind of like that, though it does feel dated next to newer slots. Base game audio is pretty generic, almost machine-like, then the free spins music gets a bit more dramatic and Middle Eastern. Better, not amazing.

Demo Version

Eye of Horus Megaways demo version is available here, and with this slot I'd actually say use it properly rather than just spinning for 30 seconds and moving on. It gives you a feel for how often the base game goes a bit dead, which matters with a 95.49% RTP slot. You can also get used to the expanidng wild and see how the free spins upgrade feature builds when it finally lands. One thing though, UK players should still check the live version's RTP if the casino shows it, because Blueprint titles can vary a touch.

Symbols and Paytable

The low symbols are the usual J, Q, K and A, and they top out at just 0.4x for six of a kind. Not great. Fans and ankhs sit in the middle, then scarab, bird, jackal and Eye of Horus above them. The Eye symbol is the best regular payer, giving 20x for six across, which sounds fine until you remember how rarely that kind of screen turns up. Scatter is better, up to 100x, but the standard paytable feels mean for a slot that can be this dry between bonuses.

Eye of Horus Megaways Bonus Features

Nearly all the excitement comes from Horus wilds and the free spins feature. In the base game it's fairly plain, though a full expanding wild reel can still rescue a bad spin. The proper upside sits in bonus mode, where symbol upgrades start clearing out weaker icons and the reels feel much healthier. You can also add extra fre spins in there, which matters because 12 spins disappears fast, annoyingly fast sometimes.

Expanding Wild

Eye of Horus Megaways Expanding Wild

Horus is the wild here, and when it lands it expands to fill the whole reel. That's the main base-game hook, really. It substitutes for the standard symbols and can suddenly make a spin look much better than it did a second earlier. The catch is that it only appears on the middle reels, so not everywhere, and that limits it a bit. On paper it sounds strong. In actual play, I found it frustrating at times because it lands often enough to tease you, but not always in a way that properly joins things up.

Free Spins

Eye of Horus Megaways Free Spins

Eye of Horus Megaways free spins trigger from 3 or more scatters anywhere on the reels, and you get 12 to start with. The scatters also pay instantly: 2x for 3, then 20x, 50x or 100x if more land. That's a decent little boost, though mst people won't care much about that bit once the feature starts. This is the part you're really waiting for because the base game can drag, especially on a rough session. When bonus finally lands it feels like the slot wakes up, or at least pretends to for a while.

Symbol Upgrades

Eye of Horus Megaways Symbol Upgrades

This is the mechanic that makes the slot worth bothering with at all. During free spins, every Horus wild upgrades one of the lower mid or higher-paying symbols to the next level on the paytable, and that upgrade sticks for the rest of the feature. So the reels slowly get cleaner, or sometimes quickly if you're lucky. Removing weaker symbols makes a huge difference to how the bonus feels. It's where the 10,000x ceiling comes from too, that's probably rare enough to annoy more people than it impresses.

Extra Free Spins

Eye of Horus Megaways More Free Games

Extra spins can drop during the bonus when Horus wilds appear, and the amounts are actually pretty useful: 1, 3, 5 or 7 extra spins for landing 1, 2, 3 or 4 wilds at once. These retriggers matter more than the base 12 spins, because the upgrade feature needs time to get going. A short bonus with no add-ons can feel undercooked and a bit pointless. One decent extension, though, changes the whole tone and suddenly the session looks far better than it did five minutes earlier.

How the Slot Holds Up on a Phone Screen

Eye of Horus Megaways runs in HTML5, so it works on iPhone, Android, tablets, all the usual stuff through a browser or casino app. No real surprise there. I played it on mobile for a while and the core experience is basically the same as desktop, including the free spins feature and the little upgrade animations when Horus starts improving symbols.

Eye of Horus Megaways iPhone 17

That said, I don't think it's a perfect phone slot. The reels can feel a bit cramped once you get stacked symbols and expanding wilds going at the same time. Nothing breaks, it's not that, but it can get visually busy and slightly awkward if you're playing on a smaller screen. I found myself squinting more than I should have.

For quick sessions on the train or while killing ten minutes, it's absolutely fine. Tap, spin, done. But if you're planning a longer session and especially if you're chasing the bonus round, I'd still rather use a laptop or bigger tablet. This isn't the worst mobile conversion I've seen, not even close, just one that feels a little boxed in when the feature finally gets interesting.

Blueprint Gaming Is Behind the Rework

Blueprint Gaming

Blueprint Gaming sits under the wider Gauselmann group and has been around UK casino sites for years now. If you've played online slots here for any length of time, you've seen their stuff. They're known for branded games, that slightly pub-machine feel, and plenty of medium to high variance titles. They also love revisiting Eye of Horus in one form or another. Production is usually decent. RTP, though, isn't always where I'd want it, and this slot proves that again.

Eye of Horus Megaways Few Practical Tips

There isn't a real strategy for beating Eye of Horus Megaways, only a few ways to make a rough session less irritating. First, pick the highest RTP version you can find, because 95.49% is already a bit skinny without accepting worse. Keep stakes modest and give the game room to run cold, since the free spins feature carries too much of the outcome to play recklessly. Judge it over a fair sample, not five dead spins, but don't romanticise a draining base game either. If you're unsure, use the demo first and set a stop point before moving to cash.

How to Play Eye of Horus Megaways for Real Money

If you're playing this for cash in the UK, stick to a licensed casino and check the RTP version if the site actually shows it, because lower-return builds do exist. I'd start smaller than feels necesary, especially if you're mainly chasing free spins. The bet can begin at £0.10, so there's no real excuse to dive in heavy. And if the base game feels cold, that's usually a sign to slow down, not prove a point by raising the stake.

Testing Eye of Horus Megaways

I always try slots with real money before writing about them, and I only use UKGC sites for that. For this test I played at MrQ Casino, which runs under Gambling Commission license under account number 60629, and I topped up with PayPal. I started at £0.60 a spin. After 90 spins I was down quicker than I liked, so I pushed to £0.80 for 40 spins, then dropped to £0.40 for the rest.

The first 100 spins were rough, loads of small line hits and one decent expanding wild win. Around spin 147 I hit free spins, got a retrigger, and that saved the session. Total stake came to £112, total return £96.40. Not a disaster, not fun either. I'd play it again, but carefully.

Slots Like Eye of Horus Megaways

If this one almost works for you but not quite, I'd look at the original Eye of Horus first. It's simpler and, weirdly, often feels more satisfying. Legacy of Ra Megaways has a similar Egyptian-Megaways vibe, while Eye of Horus The Golden Tablet Megaways pushes the formula harder. Pharaoh's Fortune is another decent shout if you want a more old-school Egypt slot with free spins and less Megaways noise.

My Conclusion

It's a decent idea, just not a brilliant one. Turning Eye of Horus into a Megaways slot doesn't automatically improve it, and sometimes I think the original still has the better feel. Free spins are the clear high point, especially once the upgrades start piling up. But the low RTP and skinny base-game pays drag it back down. Fans of the series should try it, sure. I just wouldn't put it near the top of my UK slot list.
